AIM: To give the children an achieveable and repeatable model for planning a complete story in a short space of time.
K.S. 1/ Y.2 session (Approx 1 hour) 1. Identify the key elements of a story and the needs of the reader. 2. Using elements from a variety of familiar story beginnings compose a unique opening sentence. 3. Taking random, everyday, classroom objects as a stimulus for the beginning, middle and end of a story. 4. The story is told in its entirety. 5. Under supervision, the children use an age-appropriate writing template to write out the story
In discussion, the children need to consider the reader and the fact that there needs to be descriptive information given for the characters and the setting. They need to answer the reader's questions of WHO? WHERE? WHAT? WHY? and WHEN? They need to make sure that they give substance to the story by including speech that serves a purpose and some expression of emotions and feelings.
